Draft Programme

The second largest sports event in the world are the Paralympic Games. At the 12th Paralympic Games held in Athens, close to 4,000 athletes of 134 countries competed at the same venues in 19 sports, immediately after the Olympic Games. Nearly 12,000 correspondents were reporting from the Paralympic Games held between September 17 and 28, 2004, and the television coverages were viewed by approximately 1,8 billion people around the world.

The purpose of the First International Paralympic Sport Film Festival and the Budapest Bridge Festival to be organized simultaneously is to improve the social acceptance of those living with a disability. The special promotions attaching to the events - where we expect the contribution of people living with a disability and those open to differences - will call attention to this problem affecting several hundred thousands of people.  This series of events will also host the international conference entitled „The Media and the Paralympic Movement”. In addition to these, a large number of large-scale events integrating the work performed by smaller professional groups and the benefits of special promotions will be organized for the public.

Objective

The goal of the Budapest Bridge Festival is to measurably improve the social acceptance of those living with a disability, thus facilitating integration on all levels, from everyday issues to those handled on the level of politics. The films to be exhibited during the Film Festival demonstrate the everyday struggles of paralympic athletes as well as their successes achieved at the games.   We will learn about the progress made by the Paralympic Movement and how people living with a disability are judged by societies in other countries (e.g. in Brasil, where there were approximately 180 hours of live coverage broadcasted of the Paralympic Games in Athens).

Tools

The Festival will also draw the attention of the international and the Hungarian media to those living with a disability. The message of the Festival can reach every level of society by retaining and using this attention. The publicity of the Festival will be facilitated via special campaigns organized with contribution from people living with a disability, as well as SMS and television promotions.
